EDUCATING GIRL CHILD
Restoring Health, Dignity and Hope to FGM Survivors
Female genital mutilation (FGM) causes a range of health problems for many women and girls in Africa. In Kenya alone, more than 3,000 women suffer from obstetric fistula every year, and many do not have the insurance or financial means to pay for corrective surgery. Because of the strong smell caused by uncontrolled urine and/or stool, many women face isolation as they cannot go to the market, or join other social activities in their community. This is a very painful experience as sometimes husbands marry another woman and these poor women are left alone as ‘outcasts’.
PARTNERS
Bring Hope Kenya has also a clinic partnership with the Waldfriede Hospital in Berlin, Germany and the attached Desert Flower Center, which supports affected women in Germany. Every year a surgery team with specialists from Waldfriede Hospital visits the Gynocare Clinic in Eldoret and supports Dr. Mabeya in free surgeries.
